Honouring Grief in Daily Life

Online Day – October 31st 2026 – 10-4pm

Grief is the other side of Love. Whatever we love, we will lose, at some point or another. We are all touched by grief; it is a common human experience for each one of us. Grief is not only for the loss of those we love, huge as this can be, but it can also include grief for our planet, for the suffering of others, for ancestral grief, for the unloved or unmet parts within, and for the hopes we had which have not been unfulfilled.

Grief can also arise as a result of the inevitable losses of daily life. Grief can be like pressure cooker. Ignored, the pressure of grief can build within potentially resulting in a number of different physical and psychosomatic problems. Conscious grief work gives us ways of releasing this pressure, at least periodically.

This day workshop will explore the nature of grief, our personal and societal avoidance strategies, and the value of working with, even learning from, grief in our lives. The workshop will include personal sharing, writing and reflective exercises, and resources, practices and rituals that can be used to channel grief. Additionally, there will be simple asana/ posture practice, yoga nidra, and questions and answers, all facilitated in a supportive and accessible way.

As this Honouring Grief day falls on Halloween, the day will also include a ritual of remembrance for our ancestors.

Grief is not something we need to fix, but to honour. The more we can allow our grief to move and express, the more it opens space for gratitude, appreciation, and even love.

The day was excellent. We were held in a safe, confidential place and at liberty to express as much or little as we felt comfortable to share. In the event everyone felt at ease to talk and this common humanity felt like a blessed salve. There were regular checks to make sure we were all okay. The day was expertly paced and had a variety of practices mixing theory and practice. We listened to poems, wrote of our grief, shared, learned of rituals and practices that may help beyond the day and enjoyed some movement, breath work and relaxation as well.
Thank you, I feel much more able to live with my grief now and learn from it rather than pushing it aside.
